Welcome to Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has become a place where young and old alike are coming to fulfill their dreams. Located just 38 miles south of Cancun, the blue sky, the beautiful turquoise water, the white sandy beaches as well as some of the best food in the world, help make Playa del Carmen one of those places that is hard to leave once visited. The ocean currents at this location are normally very mild, as Cozumel and the coral reef act as a breakwater for the strong Atlantic Ocean making it an ideal area for scuba diving and snorkeling.

Although Playa del Carmen is predominately made up of native inhabitants, ever larger numbers of people from other parts of Mexico and foreign countries are now calling Playa home. A great variety of cuisines are available thanks to the influence not only of Mexico, but European and South American tourists. The quality of many of its international dishes has reached levels comparable with those of the countries of origin.

Most of the shopping for tourists is located on 5th Avenue in Playa. This is a pedestrian only zone that from morning 'til evening is filled with the most interesting people. For those wanting to shop or just look, or just sit and watch the people from a cafe or restaurant, this is the place to find some of the beautiful Mexican handicrafts.

Although tourists find the beaches of Playa del Carmen hard to leave, there are a wide variety of activities to experience in the general area. Take a boat trip, a jungle adventure, or visit one of the many Mayan ruins such as Tulum or Chichen Itza . Or you can spend a day at Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Xpu-Ha, or take a 45-minute ferry ride to Cozumel. Enjoy one or all of these activities depending on what you want out of your visit.

From small, quaint, hotels nestled on quite streets in Playa del Carmen to All Inclusive, luxurious resorts hotels in neighboring Playacar, you can find the right place to spend your stay. For those wanting to relax and play 18 holes of golf, neighboring Playacar is home to the Playacar Golf Club, a beautiful public course carved through the dense Mayan jungle.

Playa del Carmen is indeed a little bit of heaven on earth. The only problem is, once you come here, you may never want to go home.
