Security Update
Lately there has been a lot of media coverage regarding drug violence in Mexico. The majority of recent media reports fail to clarify the distance between the border towns where the violence is happening and major tourist destinations such as Cancun, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and Riviera Maya, which are located more than 1,000 miles apart. This has lead to a huge amount of confusion and unnecessary concern among travelers wishing to visit the main tourist destinations.
The Mexico Tourism Board has a website dedicated to travelers' security concerns. To view a map that shows the areas of concern in relation to the main tourist destinations, please visit:
MEXICOUPDATE
On the main page you can scroll over the destination you are looking to visit (green dots) and it will then show you the distance to the problem areas (red dots), and also give you a general idea of the distance. For example, Cancun to Tijuana is approximately 2,012 miles apart, which is the same distance as Los Angeles to Chicago!
